2024 Toyota Camry TRD V6 Side View

Back when mid-size sedans ruled U.S. sales, the drivetrain options were pretty straightforward. The standard 4-cylinder engines were all anyone needed in these size vehicles, but every mainstream manufacturer offered a V6 for those who wanted more than what they needed. Now, the Camry stands alone as the only model in its category to offer a V6. The midsize offerings from Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, and even Chevrolet only offer 4-bangers. Most other brands don’t offer midsize sedans at all. Found at Valley Hi Toyota, the Camry TRD V6 is now one of a kind.

The TRD does have some V6 company within the Camry line. The XLE and XSE grades are both available with the same 3.5-liter V6. However, the TRD, with its focus on performance, stands out as the most thrilling grade in the Camry model line. With a starting MSRP of $33,485, it is also the least expensive Camry V6 model, offering both an exciting and affordable option for driving enthusiasts.

Making a Statement

While the V6 XLE and XSE go the sleeper route, the TRD dispenses with any such subtlety and makes a statement of its capability. Regardless of the exterior color, a black theme is applied to the 19-inch wheels, lower grille, wing spoiler, lower grille, side mirrors, and badging. You will also find a bit of red on the brake calipers, as well as trim in the side aero skirts and rear diffuser. Red details are more overt in the cabin, such as the gauge cluster, seat trim, seatbelts, and contrast stitching throughout. Complementing the theme are the bright metallic finish pedals down below.

Smooth Linear Power

V6 Camrys have always been surprisingly powerful for a model that had the reputation of being the epitome of practicality. The current Camry V6 is no exception, with 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. While there are turbocharged 4-cylinder models that can boast similar figures, only the Camry will give you that predictable linear throttle response every leadfoot appreciates. Toyota has been refining this engine for years, and it shows with a remarkably smooth power output that starts out strong.

The power is channeled through the model line’s 8-speed transmission with sequential shift ability. While there are AWD models in the Camry line, the TRD is not among them, so all power heads to the front wheels.

A Chassis to back the Power and Appearance

The car sits lower with TRD-tuned springs that are 44% stiffer at the front and 67% stiffer at the rear. The anti-roll bars and dampers are also bespoke to this model. Up front, the brake discs grow to 12.9 inches and are grabbed by 2-piston calipers in that fetching red color. The TRD cat-back exhaust system calls attention to itself with an increased growl and large TRD exhaust tips on each rear side.

While we just emphasized the TRD’s differences from the Camry lineup, be assured that what everyone appreciates about every Camry is all there. However, some high-end features like the larger touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and sunroof are saved for the XLE and XSE V6 models. The rear seatback is also fixed to allow increased bracing for greater lateral rigidity. Like the rest of the model line, it is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes:

  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Lane Tracing Assis
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Road Sight Assist

When we said this was the last mid-size sedan standing, we meant it in more ways than one. The 2025 Camry is expected to follow the tire prints of the Sienna, Venza, and Sequoia in being an all-hybrid model line. So, the 2024 TRD and other V6 Camys will truly be the last of their kind. Visit Valley Hi Toyota soon so you don’t miss your chance to check out the Toyota TRD V6 before it is gone.
