Know your options

A crucial part of owning an electric vehicle is your in-home charging station. Having your own charging station comes with plenty of benefits. These benefits go far beyond going out of your way to finding the nearest or cheapest gas station. Before you become an EV owner, there’s plenty of research that must be done. Home charging stations are a big part of that equation.

In simple terms, these charging stations work just like your phone and phone charger. Unlike your phone charger, these stations come with varying levels of capability and efficiency.
Generally, Level 1 charging stations conveniently come with the purchase or lease of a new EV. Simplicity is key with these charging stations as they are intended to work with your standard home wall sockets. The setback of these stations is that they can take up to 35-50 hours to fully charge your EV.

Level 2 charging stations are more efficient when it comes to the total time spent plugged in. These systems can also plug into the wall, but require a 240-volt circuit. Think of the bulkier multi-pronged plug used for a clothes dryer. Although this type of outlet will likely require an electrician to install, the benefits are immense. An EV with a range of 200 miles can fully charge in as little as 10 hours. These systems act fast so you and your Toyota EV can get back out on the road.

Level 3 charging stations are usually used on a commercial level and aren’t generally recommended for in-home use. Installing one of these stations can cost upwards of $50,000. Even if this is financially feasible, many residential areas will not support these systems.

The cost per mile is worth while

In terms of cost per mile, installing one of these charging stations can prove to be a wise decision. On top of the savings, many states offer tax credits and rebates to those who install these systems. While the initial investment may seem daunting, the benefits that follow will prove to be worthwhile. Valley Hi Toyota is here to help you along your EV journey.
