The GR Corolla is easily one of the most exciting Toyota models ever to reach our shores, and it enters 2024 in high demand after a year of low supply. Toyota added a new Premium grade for 2024, which brings some of the performance goodies offered in other trims.
The GR Corolla Premium builds on the Core trim with Torsen limited-slip differentials in the front and rear. It also gets suede upholstery with stitched GR logos and red-painted GR brake calipers. Other standard features include an eight-speaker JBL sound system, wireless charging, parking sensors, and brake cooling ducts.

Of course, the stars of the show carry on unchanged. The turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission remain on board, and the car’s rally-bred all-wheel drive system is still standard. Though small and short on cylinders, the engine is a winner, and the turbocharger’s 25.2 pounds of boost helps it deliver an impressive 0-60 mph time of around five seconds.
The ultra-limited Morizo Edition model was only available for one year, but the Core and Circuit trims return alongside the new Premium. While the powertrain is the same for all three, the base Core requires adding a performance package to get the limited-slip differentials. The Circuit trim gets a hood bulge and gloss-black air vents, along with a carbon fiber roof and unique graphics.
We’ve entered a golden age of speed and power with small cars in recent years, and the fantastic GR Corolla has stiff competition from vehicles like the Honda Civic Type R,
Acura Integra Type S, and Volkswagen Golf R. Even so, none of those cars offer the precision of control over their powertrains that the GR provides, and only the Golf R has all-wheel drive. There’s also the rarity and “specialness” factor, which Toyota has in spades over its competitors.
