The Toyota RAV4 practically invented its segment, and it continues as one of the best options in the field today. Toyota has updated the SUV over the years, adding new powertrain choices, including hybrid and plug-in options. The RAV4 has also moved toward the rugged end of the SUV spectrum with the recent Adventure trim. For 2024, Toyota is introducing a new Hybrid Woodland Edition trim that brings additional cargo space, on-demand all-wheel drive, and a new available paint color.
Proven Hybrid Power
The Hybrid Woodland Edition retains the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor that combine for 219 horsepower. It returns 37 mpg combined and offers several drive modes, including a Trail mode that improves off-road traction and a sport mode for stronger acceleration. Toyota also gave the SUV TRD-tuned suspension, giving it better off-road performance and a more comfortable on-road experience.
Interior styling didn’t drastically change with the Woodland Edition, but the trim gets upscale features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and rain-sensing wipers. It keeps the RAV4’s valuable interior storage space, including massive cupholders and a large open tray storage space.
Updated Tech and Robust Safety Features
Toyota improved the RAV4’s infotainment software by giving it an eight- or 10.5-inch display. The new interface is more fluid and responsive than before, and it’s a delight to use while driving, making it less distracting than many competing systems. Toyota equips Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard equipment, along with HD radio, SiriusXM radio, and more.
Of course, the RAV4 wouldn’t be as competent a family hauler if it weren’t safe, and it gets a full suite of advanced driver-aids to bolster its safety credentials. Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 comes standard, bringing adaptive cruise control, lane departure alerts, lane tracing assist, automatic high beams, and much more.
