The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the most reliable and value-holding vehicles to ever be sold to the public. You can regularly see models with 200,000 or 300,000 miles looking great and selling for good money on the open market. And they are absolutely beloved. Everyone who has ever owned a Land Cruiser will tell you that it is simply a marvel. It doesn’t age poorly, it doesn’t break down, and it is a tank. It gets you there and back safely.
A Short Nap
Toyota let the Land Cruiser take a short three-year nap, and now for 2024 comes a completely new vehicle inside and out. It comes in a little smaller than the previous generations, which puts it closer to its roots. It rides on the Toyota New Global Architecture F (TNGA-F) platform. It shares a platform with the global Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado, Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, and Lexus LX and GX models.
Engine & Prowess
All models will be powered by a Turbocharged 2.4-liter Four Cylinder Hybrid engine that produces 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque that’s mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The all-new Land Cruiser will have full-time 4-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case, including an automatic locking limited-slip differential. An electronic locking rear differential is standard and can split power 50/50 to the rear wheels to help improve traction and grip. Toyota says the new vehicle will still tow a healthy 6,000 lbs.
Coming in three flavors, the Land Cruiser 1958, Land Cruiser, and Land Cruiser First Edition, off-roading prowess will undoubtedly be fantastic. The Approach angle of the 1958 model is 30 degrees, while the other trims will be 31 degrees. The breakover angle of all three is 25 degrees, and the departure angle is 22 degrees.
Not As Small As You Think
Even though the 2024 Land Cruiser is smaller than the previous J200 generation, it is not that much smaller. At 112.2 inches, the wheelbase is the exact same, the overall length is only 1.2 inches shorter at 193.7”, and the height is .8 of an inch less at 73.2”.
Technology
The New Land Cruiser will come with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display as standard on the 1958 edition, with a 12.3-inch monitor being available on all other trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also be standard across all models. The optional Premium Package will add power heated and ventilated leather-trimmed seats with lumbar support, Head-Up Display, Digital Rearview Mirror, Moonroof, 14-speaker JBL Audio System, and more.
First Edition & Colors
First Edition Land Cruisers will be limited to 5,000 units for North America.
The new vehicles will have the choice of 7 different exterior colors, including Ice Cap, Wind Chill Pearl, Underground, Black, Meteor Shower, Trail Dust, and Heritage Blue. Trail Dust and Heritage Blue will also feature a Grayscape roof.
Excellent Safety
Standard over the range is Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which will feature Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Proactive Driving Assist.
Pricing
Toyota says the new Land Cruiser will have a starting MSRP in the mid-$50,000 range.
