2026 Toyota Crown

Performance

Every Crown has one of two available hybrid drivetrains. The XLE, Limited, and new Nightshade grade all feature a 2.5-liter dual-injection inline-4 engine combined with a front 118-horsepower hybrid motor and rear 54-horsepower rear hybrid motor. Together, they produce 236 total system horsepower. A continuously variable transmission controls power to the front wheels, while the rear motor activates upon acceleration and slippery road conditions to enhance the all-wheel drive’s traction. It does this with an impressive EPA-estimated mpg of 42 city/41 highway/41 combined.  

The Platinum grade features a turbocharged 2.4-liter dual-injection inline-4 engine, 81-horsepower front motor, and 79-horsepower rear motor for a total system rating of 340 horsepower. Power to the front wheels is channeled through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The rear motor is active all the time. Front/rear power distribution can range from 70:30 to 20:80, depending on conditions. EPA estimates for this more powerful drivetrain are 29/32/30.  

The suspension consists of independent MacPherson struts, a stabilizer bar up front with multi-link geometry, and a stabilizer bar in the rear. Back up front, the Crown includes a new method for fastening the steering gear, enabling rigid, direct handling and reducing noise and vibration.   

The Platinum grade features an Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), which automatically controls the friction within the absorber when turning, controlling the damping force and reducing pitch at high drive torque to minimize the effects of bumpy roads. A linear solenoid-type actuator is also equipped on the system to reduce body pitch and roll. AVS joins the throttle, transmission, and steering assist as dynamic components in the selectable drive modes of NORMAL, ECO, SPORT, SPORT+, COMFORT, or CUSTOM, the latter of which can set each component individually.

Exterior

The front end is a unique version of the hammerhead design now found on many Toyota sedans. The muscular rear fenders, fastback roofline, and high beltline give the Crown a more aggressive design than previous Toyota flagship sedans.  

A unique black trim piece emphasizing the concave surface of the lower doors and a vehicle-wide wrap-around LED taillight add to the dynamic appearance. This is further enhanced by 19-inch wheels on the XLE and Limited grades and a choice of three 21-inch wheel designs for the Platinum grade.  

Interior

An elegant dash with a large center screen, horizontal theme, and bronze trim sets the tone for the cabin. Standard features include leather seating, a digital driver’s display, piano key finished physical controls, and the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system. Other standard features include 8-way power front seats, dual-zone climate control, and wireless smartphone compatibility.   

The 2026 Crown comfortably seats five adults with just a hair under 39 inches of rear legroom and 55.1 inches of rear shoulder room. Rear passengers in the Limited and Platinum models can enjoy the view of the panoramic fixed-glass roof. Behind the cabin is the separate truck with 15.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which can be expanded through 60/40 split folding rear seat backs. 

Technology

All 2026 Crown trim levels come standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Limited and Platinum grades feature a JBL Premium Audio System with 11 speakers, including a rear subwoofer powered by an 8-channel amplifier. The system was acoustically tuned for the 2026 Toyota Crown to match its unique vehicle characteristics.   

A standard wireless charging “pad” is vertical to save space and keep the phone securely in place. There are also five USB-C charge ports for passenger devices. Two features unique to the Platinum model include a 10-inch head-up display, which projects key driver’s information low on the windshield, and a Digital Key, which enables the driver’s smartphone to act in place of a physical key and extend that ability to trusted family and friends.  

Safety and Driver Assist

The 2026 Crown is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of safety and driver assistance technologies, which includes:    

• Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection: Designed to help detect a vehicle, pedestrian, bicyclist, or motorcyclist and provide an audible/visual forward-collision warning under certain circumstances. If you don’t react, the system is designed to provide automatic emergency braking.   

• Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: An adaptive cruise control system designed to be set at speeds above 20 mph. It uses vehicle-to-vehicle distance control to help maintain a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of you.   

• Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist: Detects lane markings or the road’s edge at speeds above 30 mph. LDA w/SA is designed to provide an audible/visual warning if an inadvertent lane departure is detected. If no corrective action is taken, Steering Assist provides gentle corrective steering for lane-keeping assistance.   

• Lane Tracing Assist: Helps keep the vehicle in the center of a lane and assists the driver with steering control while Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is in use.   

• Road Sign Assist: Uses a forward-facing camera to recognize specific road signs, such as speed limit, stop, and yield signs. RSA provides sign information to the driver via the Multi-Information Display and available head-up display.  

• Automatic High Beams: Detects headlights of oncoming vehicles and taillights of preceding vehicles and automatically toggles between high and low beams as appropriate.   

• Proactive Driving Assist: Uses the vehicle’s camera and radar when system operating conditions are met to provide gentle braking and/or steering to support driving tasks such as distance control between your vehicle and a preceding vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist. PDA can also provide gentle braking into curves.   

Blind Sport Monitor and Rear-Cross Traffic Alert are also standard across the model line. Also included is a 10-year free trial subscription to Safety Connect, which includes:
