2025 Toyota bZ4X vs the Competition

2025 Toyota bZ4X vs the Competition

How do you go “Beyond Zero” with an affordable EV that is practical and fun to drive? Toyota has the answer—the bZ4X. Our battery-electric SUV offers versatile space for families on-the-go and enthusiasts with active lifestyles. Built on the e-TGNA platform, the bZ4X is wrapped in a future-forward exterior design with a highly advanced interior. We offer the bZ4X in single-motor or dual-motor versions with all-wheel drive. There are three grades from which to choose. No matter which one you choose, be assured of an exciting drive that will take you from Point A to Point bZ.

How well does the Toyota bZ4X compare against the competition?

2025 Toyota bZ4X vs the Ford Mustang Mach-e

Ford applied its iconic name to a practical four-door electric SUV. While adding elements of the ponycar’s design, it offers advanced features not found on its muscle car namesake. It comes in single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive models.

  • Toyota offers higher ground clearance for all of its models. The bZ4X stands 8.1 inches off the surface, while the Mustang Mach-E only has a 5.7-inch ground clearance.
  • The available all-wheel-drive system on the bZ4X is a full-time system. It also includes X-Mode with Downhill Assist Control. The Mustang Mach-E’s all-wheel-drive system is an on-demand system without hill descent control available.
  • Storing items inside the bZ4X is plentiful and protective. A standard cargo cover keeps prying eyes from seeing what’s in the cargo hold. This is an accessory for the Mustang Mach-E.
  • All bZ4X models have standard roof rails. The Mustang Mach-E is not equipped with them. The bZ4X also has a longer roofline than the Mustang Mach-E.
  • We like our vehicles to look good. There is nothing fussy about the bZ4X’s design—just clean, straightforward lines that are inviting, welcoming, and distinctive.

2025 Toyota bZ4X vs the Nissan Ariya

Nissan’s answer to the battery-electric SUV wears a sharp suit. Its advanced safety technology keeps the Ariya secure on the highway. It comes in single-motor front-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive models.

  • The available all-wheel-drive system on the bZ4X is a full-time system. It also includes X-Mode with Downhill Assist Control. The Ariya’s all-wheel-drive system is an on-demand system without hill descent control available.
  • The bZ4X’s standard 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery is larger than the Ariya‘s standard 63.0-kilowatt-hour battery. That translates into a longer range for the single-motor Toyota than the single-motor Nissan (252 vs. 216 miles).
  • All bZ4X models have standard roof rails. The Ariya is not equipped with them.
  • The bZ4X is one of the better values among EV SUVs in its size class. Based on comparable base models, the price difference between the dual-motor bZ4X XLE with all-wheel drive and the dual-motor Ariya with all-wheel drive is over $3,600.

2025 Toyota bZ4X vs the Tesla Model Y

The start-up automaker set the standard for all EVs to follow. The Model Y is an SUV that pushes advanced styling, driver engagement, and performance while utilizing a proprietary charging network. It comes in single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive models.

  • Front seat occupants will enjoy a more spacious place in the bZ4X. In fact, it has more front legroom (42.1 vs. 41.8 inches) and shoulder room (57.8 vs. 56.4 inches) than in the Model Y.
  • With no instrument cluster in front of the driver, every function situated on the center screen, and confusing controls, the Model Y offers a less intuitive driving experience overall than the bZ4X. The bZ4X has an instrument cluster in front of the driver, a convenient push-button ignition button, and an e-shifter on the console.
