The 2026 Toyota bZ is More Than Just a Name Change
Toyota began a new chapter in offering battery-electric vehicles with the bZ4X a few years ago. It was very practical and offered the latest technology available at the time. Now, a newly revised BEV SUV has arrived for 2026, with a more simplified name: bZ.
The letters “bZ” mean “Beyond Zero.” This is Toyota’s strategy towards creating vehicles that will emit zero emissions, including hybrids and plug-in hybrids. The 2026 bZ is part of a growing family of BEV SUVs that will offer more sustainable choices for our customers. Two additional BEV SUVs – the bZ Woodland and C-HR – are expected to arrive soon.

Recently, MotorTrend had a 2026 bZ in for a review. They applauded the improvements made to this BEV SUV compared to the outgoing model. One of them was the more simplified model name. Yet, there is much more to like about the 2026 bZ. They added that it received “a new base model, more power, longer range, and faster charging…making it a more competitive compact all-electric SUV.”
For 2026, Toyota focused on improvements in performance and range. The battery capacity has been increased to 74.7 kilowatt-hours on the XLE Plus FWD, XLE AWD, and all Limited models. This is now fed through a native NACS port, which gives you access to more public chargers than before. You also receive a complimentary J1772 CCS adapter for use at chargers that still utilize this plug system.
In turn, power and range numbers have increased. All all-wheel drive models are rated for 338 horsepower. Combined with a larger battery pack and increased power, XLE and Limited AWD models can achieve up to 288 miles on a full charge. The XLE Plus FWD model goes further, with a rating of up to 314 miles on a full state of charge. Limited FWD models can now achieve a range of 299 miles on a full battery.

Another benefit of the 2026 bZ is Plug & Charge. All you have to do is plug in your bZ and let it charge back up. This is usable at Tesla Supercharger stations and will be expanded to other networks soon.
The improvements continue with a revised look that is cleaner all around. Inside, a new 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen appears in the middle of the dashboard. This includes the ability to use Apple Maps EV Routing when you are connected through Apple CarPlay. This makes finding a compatible charger for your 2026 bZ much easier.

All of these improvements are great, but MotorTrend has even more compliments to share on how the 2026 bZ drives. They said that “with great chassis control and body composure in the corners, it’s good entertainment on a winding track. Its steering is light and super quick, making it better than average for a compact SUV.”
