2026 Toyota Tacoma vs 2026 GMC Canyon
There are plenty of options on the market when you’re looking for a new pickup truck. One such truck that buyers love is the 2026 Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma has a long history as one of the most reliable trucks, holding its value better than nearly any other vehicle on the road. But, as there are now more trucks competing against the Tacoma than ever before, how does the Toyota stack up against something like the GMC Canyon?
Meet The 2026 Toyota Tacoma
Toyota offers the Tacoma in multiple exceptional trim levels for every type of customer. Not every truck customer needs the ultimate off-road vehicle, while some do. The Tacoma starts from $33,740 and is available in SR, SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Sport i-FORCE MAX, TRD Off-Road i-FORCE MAX, Limited, Limited i-FORCE MAX, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro.

Two Great Engine Choices
Buyers can choose from two engines: a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 228 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque in base SR trim, which increases to 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque in higher trims, with an 8-speed automatic transmission, or 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque when optioned with a 6-speed manual. i-FORCE MAX trims get the same engine, with a hybrid system that increases power to 326 horsepower (323 for the Trailhunter) and 465 lb-ft of torque.
Meet The 2026 GMC Canyon
Compare the pricing and trim levels to the GMC Canyon, which has a base price of $40,995, or $7,255 more expensive than the Toyota, and is available in base Elevation, AT4, Denali, and AT4X. The Canyon does offer more power and torque, 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, from its only engine, a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, than the standard engine in the Tacoma. However, it can’t keep up with the hybrid and turbocharged i-FORCE MAX.
Off-Roading Done Better
The GMC Canyon does offer a heavy-duty off-road model, the AT4X, but Toyota gives the Tacoma even more off-road prowess with the TRD Pro and Trailhunter models. Because the TRD Pro is inspired by Baja rallying, buyers can option the IsoDynamic Performance front seats, which use a shock absorber system to reduce body and head movement when off-roading. This seriously decreases fatigue on challenging terrain. GMC does not offer anything of that sort.
Great Technology Features
Tacoma buyers will appreciate the vast amount of technology that includes features like an available 14-inch infotainment touchscreen plus a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, USB-C ports for both front and rear passengers, a Qi (pronounced like chee) wireless charging pad for your phone, as well as both Digital and Card Keys. The Digital Key allows you to use your smartphone to lock, unlock, and start your Tacoma. You can also remotely share the Digital Key with others. The Card Key is a credit card-sized smart key that fits more easily in a pocket or wallet. Say you’re going to the beach, and you don’t want your keys to get stolen… just bring your Card Key and hide it more conveniently than a standard key.

A Powerful and Unique JBL Sound System
For buyers who love a great sound system, the optional JBL premium system offers 10 speakers, a subwoofer, and a JBL FLEX portable Bluetooth speaker mounted on the top of the dashboard to charge and can be taken out when you need tunes on the go. The GMC Canyon does not offer a built-in portable speaker.
