Same SUV, Updated for 2027
If you are searching for a 2026 Sequoia, you may have seen that the 2027 model is already announced. Here is what actually changes, based on Toyota’s information, and what Toyota has not shared yet.

Safety: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 to 4.0
The 2026 Sequoia comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which includes Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Lane Tracing Assist. For 2027, Toyota lists Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 as standard, with the same core features plus Proactive Driving Assist.
If you are curious how Toyota’s safety suites have evolved, see our Toyota Safety Sense explained guide. Safety systems have limits, and they do not replace attentive driving.
Tech and Convenience
The biggest day-to-day change is the screen. The 2027 Sequoia makes the 14-inch touchscreen standard, with customizable home-screen widgets, AT&T 5G connectivity, and a faster embedded voice assistant. Toyota also lists a built-in Drive Recorder Dash Cam that saves 20-second clips, a 2.4kW inverter for camping and tailgating, and Enhanced Digital Key, which lets you use a phone as a key and share access with up to five additional drivers.
On the 2026 model, the 14-inch screen is available on the SR5 and Toyota lists it on the Limited grade, so some 2026 Sequoias already have the larger display.
Off-Road: Trailhunter Is the New Option
The Trailhunter is the headline addition. It is a package for the SR5 with Old Man Emu suspension, Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires, front recovery hooks, extra underbody protection, Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and a locking rear differential. We cover it in depth in our 2027 Sequoia Trailhunter post.
If you want the most capable Sequoia available right now, the 2026 TRD Pro remains a strong choice.
Should You Buy a 2026 or Wait for the 2027?
There is no single right answer. A 2026 Sequoia is available to look at, drive, and compare today. The 2027 adds newer safety and technology and a new off-road package, but Toyota has not announced an on-sale date or full specifications yet.
One point to confirm: the two Toyota announcements describe ToyotaCare differently. The 2026 information lists complimentary maintenance and roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, while the 2027 announcement lists maintenance for one year or 10,000 miles plus two years of Roadside Assistance.
