2027 Toyota Tundra: Trailhunter, New Tech and What High Desert Drivers Should Know

Toyota has shared details about a redesigned front end, a 14-inch screen, a new off-road package and more. Here is what it means for Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley and Adelanto truck shoppers.

Whether your weekends mean a trailer to Lake Havasu, a campsite up near Big Bear, or the dirt roads around Apple Valley and Adelanto, the Tundra is a truck built for the way we drive here. Toyota has announced a refreshed 2027 Tundra with sharper styling, more technology and a brand-new Trailhunter package. Here is what is confirmed so far, and what Toyota has not announced yet.

What is new on the 2027 Toyota Tundra?

According to Toyota, the 2027 Tundra gets updates inside and out while keeping both of its powertrains: a twin-turbo V6 and the i-FORCE MAX hybrid.

Per Toyota’s July 21, 2026 announcement. Digital Key requires an active Remote Connect trial or subscription. Connected services require a 4G or 5G network.

What is the Tundra Trailhunter, and is it built for the High Desert?

Trailhunter is an all-new overlanding package for 2027, built on the SR5 grade. Toyota says it adds:

  • Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires
  • Upgraded Old Man Emu suspension
  • Front recovery hooks and extra underbody protection
  • Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control
  • A locking rear differential
  • Unique bronze-colored wheels and exclusive badges

For drivers who head out on washboard roads, sand and rocky trails around the Mojave, that is a notable list. Recovery hooks, underbody protection and a locking rear differential are the kinds of upgrades off-road drivers look for. Ask our team how the Trailhunter compares with the other off-road options on the lot.

What changed on the 2027 Tundra TRD Pro?

Toyota is also updating the TRD Pro with newly designed, Tundra-tuned FOX enhanced Q3S adjustable shocks, a new Honeycomb color, standard red tow hooks and available ISO-dynamic seats. An available TRD Performance package adds more hardware and tuning. A Hot Honey color has also been announced for the 2027 TRD Pro lineup.

Is the Tundra i-FORCE MAX hybrid worth considering?

If you tow, haul or work from the truck, the i-FORCE MAX may be worth considering. Toyota says it adds more torque and responsiveness than the twin-turbo V6, and it includes a 2.4 kW inverter that can power tools, gear and recreational equipment, which may be useful at a job site or a campsite without hookups. Toyota lists a 10-year, 150,000-mile hybrid battery warranty that transfers to the next owner.

Toyota has not yet published 2027 horsepower, torque or fuel economy figures. They are expected in fall 2026. Until then, you can see the current numbers on our 2026 Tundra research page, and browse Tundra i-FORCE MAX inventory to see what is available today.

How much can the 2027 Tundra tow?

Toyota has not announced 2027 towing or payload ratings yet, and full specifications are expected in fall 2026. Towing capacity depends on the engine, cab, bed, drivetrain and equipment, so the number on a specific truck can differ from the headline figure. Before you hook up a trailer, it also helps to know your tongue weight and how to load a trailer. Our guide explains both: What capacities should you know before you tow?

If you are planning a trip over the Cajon Pass with a trailer, ask our team to go over the ratings for the exact truck you are considering.

What safety and tech come standard on the 2027 Tundra?

Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 is standard, per Toyota, and includes:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist and Automatic High Beams
  • Proactive Driving Assist

Inside, a 14-inch touchscreen is standard with Toyota’s latest multimedia system. The built-in dash cam saves 20-second clips of manual and triggered events when enabled. See our Toyota Safety Sense guide for how the system works.
