The Toyota Sequoia from A Mom’s Perspective 

In a new review by AutoGuide, automotive creator Jana Askeland from the YouTube channel Real Mom Car Tours, took a look at the new Toyota Sequoia Capstone to see how it is for moms who need a safe, reliable, and large SUV to handle a family and all of their stuff.  

What Powers the Sequoia 

The 2026 Sequoia is the flagship vehicle of the Toyota SUV lineup, and it is powered by a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 i-FORCE MAX, paired with a 1.87-kWh hybrid powertrain and a 10-speed automatic transmission for ultimate control and efficiency. Total system output is 437 horsepower and supercar-rivaling 583 lb-ft of torque. All models come standard with rear-wheel drive but can be optioned with a true 4-wheel-drive system.  

Pricing and Trim Levels 

Starting from $66,920, the Sequoia is available in six different trim levels, including SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro, 1794 Edition, and the range-topping Capstone, which was reviewed by Jana. All models can tow more than 9,000 lbs, with the SR5 4×2 towing the most at 9,520 lbs when properly equipped.  

EPA Fuel Economy 

The EPA estimates that 2-wheel-drive models will achieve 21 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, while 4×4-equipped trim levels achieve 19 city and 22 highway. 

A True Three-Row SUV With Plenty of Cargo Space 

As a three-row SUV, the big Toyota offers lots of space, with 11.5 and 22.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, depending on whether the rear seats are slid all the way back. Lowering the third row opens the cabin up to 49 cu.ft, and folding all rows creates 86.9 cu.ft of total space.  

Unique Features That This Mom Appreciated 

Jana really enjoyed driving the Sequoia, saying it has many truck-like features that make it feel very sturdy and in command. With the available power running boards, her kids were able to get in and out of the vehicle easily and safely, which is obviously very important when choosing the right family hauler. But, even with how large and in charge the Toyota felt, there was one thing that truly surprised her.  

What Jana Had to Say 

“My favorite surprise? Even though it’s big, it turns and parks incredibly well. It honestly feels like it turns on a dime. U-turns are easy. Parking is easy. Backing into a space is smooth and confident. Toyota’s done something special with the steering and turning radius here.” 

Plenty of Technology 

Buyers will appreciate the available 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 14 JBL speakers with a subwoofer and amplifier, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10-inch color Head-Up Display that shows your speed, navigation, and hybrid system information.
