The 2025 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Takes You Back to the Basics

Did you know that the newest versions of our off-road icon are available in a wide variety of trims and drivelines? It’s true. The 2025 Toyota 4Runner offers the power of choice. You have two four-wheel drive systems available across 12 trim levels. It is also available in a rear-wheel-drive version. In fact, MotorTrend recently reviewed a two-wheel-drive trim. Here is what they call a “base” model – the “lowest” specification you can get on a 2025 4Runner.
Everything you expect in a 2025 4Runner comes standard in the SR5. The 278-horsepower 2.4-liter turbocharged i-FORCE engine is a key part of this model. It also puts down 317 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is also standard on this SR5 rear-drive model. In total, this driveline can achieve up to an EPA-rated 26 MPG on the highway.

The 2025 4Runner SR5 does not skimp on the features you need. The eight-inch Multimedia touchscreen offers eight speakers, wireless smartphone connectivity, and a three-month SiriusXM subscription. You also get an instrument cluster with large analog dials and a seven-inch Multi-Function Display. Additional standard interior amenities include a single-zone climate control system with rear seat air vents, comfortable cloth seating, and 12 cup and bottle holders. You can also equip the 2025 4Runner SR5 with a third-row seat.
A set of 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires is part of the 2025 4Runner SR5 package. That adds a sporty look that can fly under the radar. However, you could agree that the 2025 4Runner’s design is far from incognito. It retains plenty of iconic design references dating back to the first-generation model of the 1980s. As MotorTrend said, this is “all you need.” Especially when it comes to getting a great value in a 2025 4Runner.

When it comes to driving the 2025 4Runner SR5 with rear-wheel drive, MotorTrend observed it truly “surprised” the test editors. They added that “its traction control system and limited-slip rear differential worked in tandem to keep the 4Runner moving through our test route consisting of light mud, sole-deep sand, and large moguls.”
To sum it all up, MotorTrend stated that the 2025 4Runner SR5 “reminded us of is that sometimes what you want and what you need can be the same thing.”
