What’s New for the 2025 Toyota RAV4

February 5th, 2025 by

It would be an understatement to say that the RAV4 is popular. It is the best-selling compact crossover in the U.S., which is the most popular vehicle category in the U.S. Once you get past a couple of full-size pickup truck models, the RAV4 is the best-selling passenger car in the country. Valley Hi Toyota tells you what is new for the 2025 RAV4.

You probably not only see plenty of RAV4s around, but many of them are of the current design. That is because 2025 marks the seventh year of its current fifth-generation design. With such success across gas-powered, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid RAV4 models, Toyota has little reason to shake things up, so the changes are relatively few for 2025.

The biggest news is in the gas-powered lineup. Likely due to the launch of the redesigned off-road 4Runner and the return of the capable Land Cruiser, Toyota has discontinued two of its three off-road-focused RAV4 grades for 2025. Gone are the Adventure and TRD off-road trims, which both had conventional gas drivetrains.

For those who want to take their RAV4s a little further from the pavement, the Woodland Edition remains in the hybrid lineup. Key functional features include TRD-tuned front and rear suspension (with unique shocks, struts, and jounce bumpers), a rear activity mount, and a 120V/100W AC power outlet in the cargo area, along with several aesthetic enhancements.

Confirming the popularity of the RAV4 Hybrid lineup, it now contains seven different grades compared to four for the gasoline drivetrain.

The other change for the 2025 RAV4 involves a name change for the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model line. Toyota had a convenient one-word name for its two plug-in hybrid models: “Prime.” However, as people actively seek out PHEVs, Toyota has renamed the RAV4 Prime to a more self-descriptive “RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid.”

The concept behind all PHEVs is straightforward. If you can plug in at home (no Level 2 charger required), the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid can operate on electricity alone for approximately 42 miles. This distance likely covers most people’s commutes or daily driving routines. Thus, the RAV4 PHEV can potentially run day after day on just electricity, which is more efficient than using gasoline.

When you need to drive beyond 42 miles, the vehicle seamlessly switches to hybrid operation. With a fully charged battery and a full gas tank, the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid boasts a range of about 600 miles and achieves a combined fuel economy of 38 mpg. Thus, it remains very fuel-efficient on the road, and there’s no need to plan for recharging on road trips. In short, a plug-in hybrid drivetrain utilizes electricity for the driving situations it’s best suited for and a gasoline engine with some electric assistance for other times.

As with the former Prime model, the 2025 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid has the most powerful RAV4 powertrain, with 302 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive. The model’s two trim levels are the sport-focused grades of SE and XSE.

Between the three drivetrains, there are thirteen 2025 RAV4 grades from which to choose, so there is likely a model that will suit your needs. Visit Valley Hi Toyota and look at the 2025 RAV4 lineup.
