2026 Toyota Sequoia Grades Explained: Capstone vs Platinum vs TRD Pro

What separates SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone, and which one fits life in the High Desert.

Six Grades, One Powertrain

Every 2026 Toyota Sequoia shares the same hybrid powertrain. What changes from grade to grade is the cabin, the wheels, the suspension, and how far off the pavement it is built to go.

Toyota builds the 2026 Sequoia in six grades: SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Capstone. Each one pairs a twin-turbo 3.4L V6 with an electric motor, which Toyota calls i-FORCE MAX, for 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic. This guide walks through what each grade adds so you can narrow it down before a test drive.

SR5 and Limited: The Family Haulers

These two grades are the ones that seat eight, which matters if you regularly carry a full crew. Toyota lists the SR5 and Limited with either two-wheel drive or part-time four-wheel drive. Power-folding third-row seats are standard on every grade, and cargo space behind the third row ranges from 11.5 to 22.3 cubic feet depending on how the seats are set.

The SR5 is the simplest way into the lineup, with an 8.0-inch touchscreen standard and a 14-inch screen available. The Limited steps up to leather-trimmed seats, ventilated front seats, and the larger touchscreen. If you are mostly doing school runs, commuting on the 15, and the occasional road trip, either one covers the basics.

Platinum, 1794 Edition, and Capstone: The Comfort Grades

These three grades seat seven and focus on the cabin. All three have massaging front seats as standard equipment, and Toyota lists a load-leveling rear air suspension as an available option. Part-time four-wheel drive is standard on all of them.

The Platinum adds heated and ventilated seats in both the front and rear rows plus a 14-speaker JBL audio system. The 1794 Edition takes a more traditional approach, with Saddle Tan leather and American Walnut trim. The Capstone is the top of the lineup, with Shale Premium Textured leather, backlit walnut trim, 22-inch wheels, and a standard head-up display. AutoGuide covers it in detail in their review of the Sequoia Capstone.

If your Sequoia will spend most of its time on pavement and you want the quietest, most comfortable long-haul ride, this is the group to drive first.

TRD Pro: The Desert Specialist

The TRD Pro is the one built for the trail. Toyota lists FOX coil-over shocks, a front stabilizer bar, an electronically locking rear differential, skid plates, and 18-inch BBS forged wheels with all-terrain tires. Multi-Terrain Select, Multi-Terrain Monitor, and Crawl Control are standard. Ground clearance is 9.1 inches, compared with 8.6 inches on the other grades, and the approach angle improves from 15 to 23 degrees according to Toyota.

That extra clearance is useful around Stoddard Wells, Johnson Valley, and the Mojave National Preserve, where washboard roads and sandy washes are part of the trip. It also seats seven rather than eight, and the turning circle is wider than on the other grades, so parking lots take a little more patience.

Which Grade Fits Your High Desert Life?

  • Big family or carpool: SR5 or Limited
  • Comfort on long highway runs: Platinum or Capstone
  • Desert trails and camping: TRD Pro
  • Upscale cabin with a classic feel: 1794 Edition

This is our take, not a rule. Fuel economy is the same across the 4×4 grades. Toyota’s EPA estimates are 19 mpg city, 22 highway, and 20 combined for 4×4 models, and 21, 24, and 22 for the 4×2 SR5 and Limited. EPA estimated fuel economy; actual mileage varies with driving conditions, habits, and vehicle condition.

Towing ratings vary by grade and drivetrain, generally around 9,000 pounds. We break that down in our guide to towing with the Sequoia in the High Desert, and the 2027 changes are covered in our 2027 Sequoia Trailhunter post.
